 President-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo, has urged the people of Dagbon to work towards maintaining peace and unity for the accelerated development of the area.

He made these remarks when a delegation of traditional rulers from the Mamprungu and Dagbon traditional areas, paid a courtesy call on him to congratulate on him on his election victory, and to pledge their support to him.

 The National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku has predicted that Ghana would in the near future will become a one-party state if the NPP becomes a ‘united’ party.

NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo finally secured the presidency after a third time, beating the incumbent, President John Mahama with 53.85 percent of valid votes cast.

President Mahama who ran on the ticket of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), secured 44.40 of valid votes cast.

The NPP also won 169 Parliamentary seats as against the NDC’s 104 seats. It also won six regions including swing regions of Greater Accra, Eastern and Western Regions.

The NPP is currently contesting the results of eleven parliamentary seats in the Brong Ahafo and

Western Regions.

One of the main campaign messages of the NDC in the run up to the December polls was that the NPP was a disintegrated political party.

Government accuses Abossey Okai Traders of Sabotage

 The National Democratic Congress is accusing spare parts dealers at Abossey Okai in Accra of either sabotaging the outgoing Mahama administration or exploiting patrons of their products.

A Member of Parliament's Finance Committee James Avedzi does not understand why the traders will cut prices of their products by as much as 30% a week after his party has lost power.

He told Joy News' Evans Mensah that while the conduct of the traders is still open for investigation, he suspects they were out to sabotage the government than exploit consumers.

Traders at the country's spare parts hub have announced price cuts for various products shortly after the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party Nana Akufo-Addo was declared winner of the 2016 election.

The price cuts was in solidarity of the incoming government which has promised a relatively business friendly policies including tax reductions, import duty reduction etc.

Accordingly, fuel pump which sold at ¢350.00 is now selling at ¢20.00. Other products including car tapes have all seen marginal reductions.

The traders are praying the Akufo-Addo led government will redeem the promise he made to them when he settles in as president.

But the NDC MP is pessimistic the Akufo-Addo government will be able to redeem such a promise.

Don’t pressurise Akufo-Addo over Ministerial Appointments – Hackman

 A former Minister of Water Resources Works and Housing, Hackman Owusu Agyeman, has asked members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to desist from putting undue pressure on President-elect, Nana Akufo-Addo, ahead of his ministerial appointments.

Mr. Owusu Agyeman said Akufo Addo should be allowed to name his own ministers at his own time ahead of his inauguration on January 7, 2017.

His comment follows an appeal Akufo-Addo made to the National Executive Committee of the NPP to give him more time to announce his proposed ministers.

“It doesn’t work that way. It is a prerogative of the president-elect. The constitution is absolutely clear; it is in the bosom of the president-elect. It’s always been like that,” Owusu Agyeman noted in an interview.

Akufo-Addo on Thursday asked for more time to enable him name ministers ahead of his official swearing-in.

We will accept appointments from Nana Addo – Smaller parties

 Barely a day after President-Elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo asked for more time to enable him select ministers for his government; Citi News can confirm that some smaller opposition parties are also looking forward to appointments in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

Ahead of his official swearing-in on January 7, 2017, Nana Akufo-Addo was expected to present the list of his proposed ministers to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for review. 

However that could not happen after a meeting on Thursday, as the President demanded to be given some more time to enable him carry out the necessary consultation as to who to appoint, as pressure mounts on him. 

But even before Nana Addo makes the appointments in his party, other smaller political parties who performed poorly in the just ended polls are also lacing their boots to serve in the new administration.

Speaking to Citi News, the National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, said an appointment from the Nana Addo led administration to any member of the PNC will not be out of place.
