Frances Essiam suspended as CEO of Gas Cylinder Company

Six out of the nine Board Members of the Ghana Cylinder Manufacturing Company Limited, have taken a decision to suspend the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Frances Essiam.

Her suspension comes on the back of a disagreement with the Board Members during which she locked them out on Tuesday afternoon when they attempted to hold a meeting at the premises.

The Board had reportedly queried Madam Essiam over claims that she has mismanaged GCMC, and also awarded some contracts without the approval of the Board or the Energy Ministry.

Spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, does not appear enthused about the call to prayer through text messaging describing it as unreasonable calls by the Environment, Science, Technology and Innovations Minister on Muslim leaders in the country to consider using text messages in inviting Muslims to prayer instead of the traditional megaphones.

Minister warns revenue collectors

MRS ELIZABETH Sackey, Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, has warned revenue collectors to be transparent in the discharge of their duties, saying “staff caught in corrupt practices would be dealt with according to the law”.
Mrs Sackey, therefore, implored the staff of revenue collecting agencies to serve as state financial watchdogs and report any wrongdoing or financial leakages to the respective authorities to ensure accountability as far as revenue mobilization was concerned.
