The
incoming Akufo-Addo government has condemned the last minute
appointments of people to key state institutions as well as the signing
of contracts by the outgoing government.
President
Mahama who leaves office on January 7, on Tuesday appointed Joseph
Whittal and Josephine Nkrumah as chairpersons of the Commission on Human
Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and National Commission for
Civic Education (NCCE) respectively.
Apart
from that, increase in allowance of National Service personnel and
signing of various contracts are set to take effect from next year among
others.
Reacting to this on Peace FM morning
show ‘Kokrokoo’, the Managing Editor of the Crusading Guide newspaper,
Abdul Malik Kweku Baako said he sees nothing wrong with what the
outgoing government is doing.
According to him, he saw nothing wrong when it occurred under the then Kufuor’s administration and he sees nothing wrong now.
“What’s
the big deal…I don’t get the noise…if the contracts are not signed
according to law, it will not hold. What is happening is neither illegal
nor unconstitutional. If they did not go according to law, the new
government has the mandate to review and withdraw…nothing stops the
government from entering into contract so far as it is lawful”
